Sidewerk is a workplace tool. It is bought by a restaurant company and issued to that company's staff. Everything in the app exists to run that restaurant's operations, and the restaurant — your employer — decides who has an account and what they can see. We hold the data on their behalf.
We do not sell personal information, we do not use it for advertising, and there are no third-party advertising or analytics trackers in the app.
What we collect
- Your work identity. Name, work email address, job role, and which restaurant locations you are assigned to. Your employer may also hold a phone number for you, and an emergency contact if they ask you for one. Your employer provides all of this — you do not create an account yourself.
- The work you record. Checklist and line-check answers, notes, temperatures and counts, photos you attach, sign-offs and signatures, training progress, and daily logs. This is the point of the app, and it is visible to your management team.
- Photos you choose to attach. The camera and photo library are only opened when you tap to add a photo. We never access them in the background.
- A notification token, if you allow notifications. This is an anonymous identifier Apple issues so we can send a notification to your device. It is deleted when you sign out or remove the app.
- Ordinary technical logs. IP address, timestamps, and device or browser type, recorded by our hosting provider so we can keep the service running and investigate problems.
What we do not collect
- Your location. The app does not request or record location, and contains no location tracking. If that ever changes, iOS will ask your permission first and this page will say so before it ships.
- Contacts, calendars, health data, or anything from other apps on your phone.
- Payment or financial information — the app takes no payments from staff.
- Any advertising identifier, and any cross-app or cross-site tracking.
Why we use it
Only to provide the service to your employer: showing you the right tasks and recipes, recording that work was done, letting managers review it, sending you notifications you asked for, and keeping the app secure and working.
Who else sees it
Your management team at the restaurant, and a small number of service providers who run the infrastructure underneath us. They may only process data to provide their service to us:
- Supabase — database, sign-in, and file storage.
- Vercel — application hosting.
- Apple Push Notification service — delivering notifications to your device.
- Resend — sending account and notification emails.
We otherwise disclose data only when the law requires it, or to protect the safety and security of the service.
How long it is kept
Records of completed work — checklists, logs, training records — are the restaurant's operating records and are kept for as long as the restaurant is a customer, because food-safety and training records are the kind of thing a business is expected to be able to produce later. Your account is deactivated as soon as your employer removes you.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest by our infrastructure providers. Access inside the app is limited by role and by location, so people see the parts of the business they work in.
Your choices
- Notifications can be turned off at any time — in the app under iOS Settings → Notifications → Sidewerk, or in your browser's settings for sidewerk.ai.
- Camera and photo access can be declined or revoked in iOS Settings, or in your browser's site permissions. The rest of Sidewerk keeps working.
- Access, correction, or deletion. Ask your manager or administrator, or email us at support@sidewerk.ai and we will work with them. Because the data belongs to your employer, some requests are theirs to decide.
Children
Sidewerk is a workplace tool and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.
Changes
If we change what we collect, we update this page and the date at the top before the change ships.
